2XC 2013 Race Series - Race 2

Part of a series of grass roots cross country mountain bike races. Each event will feature two races, one for under 16s and the second for over 16s. Each race will then be split up into the usual age categories. Under 16s will pay £3 (£5 weekend round.) to race, juniors (16-18) will pay £7 (£10 weekend round) and adults £12 (£15 weekend round). A competitor's best four results will count towards their series placing and a competitor must have entered four races to be considered. Points will be awarded to the first 10 finishers in each category on the basis of 20 to the winner, 17 to second, 15 to third and then descending by 2 points to 1 point for 10th place. Should a competitor not finish they will not score points but the race will count to the minimum 4 race entry rule. Volunteers who help out at any race will be awarded their average points over the season for that race and the race counts for the minimum 4 race rule. In the event of a tie on points, overall position will be decided on the competitors placing in the league final. Download an entry form from the 2XC website and complete the form at the bottom of the page and post to 2XC,100 Marldon Road, Paignton, Devon, TQ3 3NJ. Cheques should be made payable to 'Mid Devon CC'. Continue Reading

Back to Roots Race Weekend

The search is on to find the South West's ultimate trail rider!

Raising funds for Summer Adventures, a two week residential couirse for young carers in Exeter and Teignbridge, and organised by University of Exeter's charitable organisation Community Action. Literally anyone who has a mountain bike can come along have a great time and support a fantastic cause! Back To RootsSaturday 8th June will see a 3-in-1 event that harks back to when people didn't class themselves as XC or Enduro or All Mountain, they just had fun on their bike. The day will be split into three stages. The first stage will be a technical skills test: think of it as an obstacle course for your bike. The course won't be timed but if you fail to clear any of the obstacles then you'll get a time penalty. The second event will be a test of your downhill skills, the course will be achievable on any bike and staying smooth and avoiding punctures will see you through the best. There will be a par time to beat and any time under that will warrant further time penalties. In the evening the winner will be decided by a Cross Country Finale. The start of the race will be handicapped by the penalty points picked up throughout the day and the first to cross the line is the overall winner! The catch is that you are only allowed one bike all day. So do you pick a mid travel full sus to excel during the day or a short travel hard tail to chase them down during the evening? Sunday 9th June will see a mini Downhill event using two of the off piste tracks. You'll get one race run on each and your cumulative time decides the results! On both days there will also be a Summer Fête including bouncy castle, giant games and hook a duck so feel free to bring your family along to enjoy a lovely Summer's day in beautiful Haldon Forest Park whilst you have fun on your bike! If you're interested visit Facebook page www.facebook.com/backtorootsracing where all information will be posted. Ride On! Continue Reading

Bristol Bikefest 2013

Ashton Court is once again host to the Ritchey Bristol Bikefest one of the most loved cycle events in the country. Bikefest 2013The event, set in the heart of Bristol is a permanent fixture in the UK biking calendar and has been drawing riders from all over the country since it began 12 years ago. In the last few years we have witnessed possibly the best course in the UK relay race scene and the playing field for 12 and 6hr endurance solo and team events, the UK single-speed champs and 3hr novice event. For 2013 the all weather course in Ashton Court will be once more the battle ground of the Bikefest. Properly tested during the rather unforgiving summer of 2012 the course managed to hold up perfectly and has put lots of smiles on riders when coming over the finish line since its full launch at the end of 2011. For more details and to enter visit the Bikefest website. Continue Reading
