How to get off-road cycling in schools
Physical education provision in schools has traditionally not included 'fringe' physical activities such as off-road cycling. Many youngsters do not fit the traditional mould of team sports or competitions but can find activities such as cycling, surfing, climbing and canoeing highly engaging. By offering opportunities for such activities through schools it is hoped that many youngsters will cultivate a life-long healthy hobby, or even a professional career.
Sport England have recognised this and now offering funding under the Sport Unlimited package which can potentially pay for instructors to take school children cycling off-road. School groups need to be lead by a fully qualified and competent instructor. Various qualifications are sufficient for this activity depending on the level of off-road cycling:
